Recently, student volunteers from Fuzhou Technology and Business University leveraged their strengths in professional knowledge to assist the United Front Work Department of Taijiang District Committee of Fuzhou City in promoting the charm and diversified cultures of Taijiang to overseas youths and students, which was highly recognized by guests from different countries. They have played a key role in this important event, reflecting the educational achievements of our university.

Several media followed and reported this event, including FJTV, People’s Convergence Media, FZNEWS, official WeChat accounts of Fuzhou United Front Work Department and Taijiang United Front Work Department.

Fujian New Horizon, a program of FJTV, reported this event in detail. In this event, 17 overseas youth and student representatives from 7 countries including Thailand, India, Zimbabwe, etc., were invited to visit the Former Young Men’s Square, Shangxiahang Historical and Cultural Block, Zhongting Street and other landmarks in Taijiang District. Mr. Zheng Bingfeng, Member of the Standing Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department of Taijiang District, was present at the event.

Through a selection process, 10 students majoring in English and Business English in the School of Humanities and Law of FZTBU stood out with their excellent English speaking skills and knowledge of Fuzhou culture. They provided one-stop comprehensive volunteer services for the foreign friends throughout the event, including process management assistance, escort, interpretation and information sharing. With our student volunteers being the tour guide, the foreign friends walked across the Former Young Men’s Bridge, and strolled through the Former Young Men’s Square to appreciate the unique appeal of the running Minjiang River, century-old buildings, and the prosperous commercial streets in the “Heart of the Minjiang River”; they tried traditional Chinese garments on at Zhongting Street, a characteristic landmark representing Taijiang’s commerce and trade, to feel the oriental aesthetics embodied in traditional costumes; they walked into the Shangxiahang Historical and Cultural Block, feeling the unique fascination of intangible cultural heritages by experiencing the techniques of beating pork wonton wrapper and jasmine tea scenting, and tasting Tongli pork wonton, Erlongbo rice glue ball stuffed by pork, jasmine tea as well as other special Taijiang snacks. The clear route guidance, excellent language competence, and good manners of our student volunteers have also deeply impressed the foreign friends.

“Today is so fascinating and I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart!” The overseas student from Nigeria said sincerely to the student volunteers. Peace and friendship are enhanced through the efforts of student volunteers. The communication between volunteers and foreign friends not only creates a heartwarming scene in this event, but manifests that students of FZTBU have shown the self-confidence and charm of the youth in China, promoted the excellent traditional Chinese culture, shared China stories through good communications in both Chinese and English, and developed the friendship to achieve “peace under heaven”.

Lin Yixin, the student volunteer from the School of Humanities and Law, said: “I have gained experience thanks to the opportunity provided by the university. This volunteer activity has strengthened my practical interpretation ability, which helps me truly realize the profound meaning of dedication and the unity of knowledge and action.” Fuzhou Technology and Business University has always been focusing on building the ability of students to apply what they have learned in school, and encouraging teachers and students to walk out of the campus to carry forward the spirit of volunteerism and give full play to their professional advantages. In this way, they can exercise and improve their abilities while contributing to society, and shine on wider and more diverse platforms with the attitude of “action speaks louder than words”.
